The aerospace industry is thrilling and challenging, but women make up only 25% of the workforce in this field. In an effort to promote gender equality and empower more women in science and engineering, Zonta International offers the Amelia Earhart Fellowship.
What is the Amelia Earhart Fellowship?
Established in 1938 in honor of the famous pilot Amelia Earhart, this fellowship offers an exceptional opportunity for women pursuing a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering or space sciences. Each year, 30 $10,000 scholarships are awarded to outstanding women in this field. This funding can be used at any university or college offering accredited graduate programs in these areas.
Eligibility:
- Women of any nationality.
- Must be enrolled full-time in a Ph.D. program and have completed at least one year of that program or obtained a master’s degree in a related aerospace field at the time of application.
- Must not graduate from their Ph.D. program before April 2025.
- Postdoctoral research programs are not eligible.
- Club members and employees of Zonta International and Zonta Foundation for Women, along with their direct family members, are not eligible to apply.
Application Process:
A Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowship Committee reviews the applications and recommends recipients to the Zonta International Board. All applicants are evaluated based on the criteria stated in the application. Details of the evaluations are kept confidential and not disclosed to applicants. All applicants will be notified of their status by the end of April.
