PhD Students Mario de la Fuente García and Martín Navarro González secure the Grant for University Teacher Training (FPU)

PhD Students Mario de la Fuente García and Martín Navarro González have secured the competitive Grant for University Teacher Training (FPU) awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MICIU).

About our students

On the one hand, Mario de la Fuente García will be pursuing a doctoral thesis titled “Aerodynamics, Stability and Control of bio-inspired flapping-wing vehicles”. The main objective of his thesis is to build new knowledge on the field of unsteady aerodynamics, flight dynamics, stability and control of Micro-Air Vehicles (MAVs), to close the gap between current state-of-the art MAV design and real flight capabilities of natural fliers.

On his side, Martín Navarro González will be pursuing a doctoral thesis titled “Active jet flow control for aeronautic applications”. In his research he’ll delve on the active control of turbulent jets for aeronautical applications, combining reduced-order modelling and machine learning to improve performance and reduce noise in propulsion systems.

About the FPU grant

The FPU grant is a is a highly competitive and prestigious program that offers predoctoral contracts for research training within doctoral programs at Spanish universities. Its primary objective is to foster research capabilities, enabling recipients to obtain a doctoral degree and acquire university teaching competencies. This initiative seeks to facilitate the future integration of beneficiaries into the Spanish higher education and scientific research system. In addition to financial support for the completion of their doctoral theses, the scholarship also covers stays at foreign (and exceptionally Spanish) centers to enhance predoctoral and, where applicable, postdoctoral training.
