PhD Student Oumarou Moussa Bola has secured the competitive Pre-doctoral research training scholarship (PIPF) funded by the Community of Madrid (CAM).
About our student
Oumarou Moussa Bola will be pursuing a doctoral thesis titled “Aircraft Trajectory Optimization and Sustainable Aviation Fuel for Climate Impact mitigation”. In order to address the challenge of aviation-induced climate impact, this study focuses on three key objectives: developing climate impact estimation models for SAF-powered aircraft; bridging Artificial Intelligence and Optimal Control to enable data-driven trajectory optimization with high accuracy and computational efficiency; and performing a large-scale analysis of the mitigation potential of SAF and climate-optimized flight planning to support evidence-based policy decisions.

About the PIPF grant
The PIPF grant is a competitive program from the Community of Madrid designed to fund the hiring of research staff for doctoral theses. Its purpose is to support the training of future doctors, facilitating research within a doctoral program. This grant, with a budget of over €29 million for 250 contracts, covers salary, social Security, and international stays. Awards are based on a rigorous evaluation of the candidate’s academic record and CV, the quality of the thesis project, and the scientific history of the director and research group.
