We are offering a PhD position within the national project ROBIN – aeROdynamic and staBility of micro-air-vehicles Inspired on Nature (PID2024-162079NB-I00), funded by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovacion y Universidades (MCIU) and the Agencia Estatal de Investigacion (AEI).
PhD thesis research details:
- PhD thesis title: Robust control of Flapping-Wing Micro Air Vehicles.
- Research topic: The project ROBIN aims to revolutionize the design process of Flapping-Wings Micro Air Vehicles (FW-MAV), developing a computational framework able to tackle the complete coupled problem of aerodynamics, flight dynamics and control of the vehicle. The PhD candidate hired in this call will be tasked with the development and evaluation of robust control strategies for the FW-MAV, using techniques ranging from model predictive control to reinforcement learning. A crucial task will consist on the development of efficient reduced order models for the FW-MAV dynamics.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in aerospace engineering or related fields.
- Experience /knowledge on fluid mechanics, flight dynamics and control is expected.
- Experience /knowledge on unsteady aerodynamics, optimization and/or machine learning will be valued.
- A proactive attitude towards learning and adapting to a highly innovative research environment is also expected.
How to apply:
Send CV, Transcript of Records and Motivation Letter to Óscar Flores Arias (oflores@ing.uc3m.es).
Deadline is June 30th due early application are welcome.
Start date is flexible, expected in fall 2026 (Sept-Nov’26).
