European Doctoral Day 2026

Europe is set to celebrate its first European Doctoral Day on May 13, 2026. Launched this year as an annual event, the day aims at highlighting the pivotal role of PhD holders and doctoral education in driving scientific excellence, innovation, and societal progress, both within and beyond the academic sphere.

This initiative bolsters Europe’s appeal to early-career researchers by encouraging students to pursue PhDs and boosting employer recognition of the degree’s value. It further aims to showcase the diverse career paths and significant societal contributions of doctoral graduates.

In alignment with this initiative, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, through its Doctoral School, is hosting a special event focused on the value of a PhD, its international scope, and the diverse career opportunities found within research and knowledge transfer.
