We are delighted to share that our PhD student Saumya Ranjan has been awarded one of the UC3M grants for the promotion of gender equality in the predoctoral community.
This grant, in the amount of 26.500 euros, per year, is designed to fund female PhD candidates seeking to complete their doctoral theses in accordance with the ‘International Doctorate’ requirements.
By doing so, this funding seeks to act as a mechanism for breaking down the extra barriers women in engineering, in our specific field, aerospace engineering, face on a daily basis.
The call was highly competitive, with around 80 applications and only 10 grants awarded, which amplifies Saumya’s already outstanding achievement.
About her research
Saumya Ranjan‘s thesis focuses on atmosphere-breathing electric propulsion (ABEP) for sustainable very low Earth orbit missions. Her research aims to develop a unique multi-dimensional simulation framework coupling atmospheric intake flow and plasma thruster discharge to boost ABEP efficiency and support the future deployment of these technologies in VLEO satellites.

With all that being said, we would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Saumya and her supervisors Jiewei Zhou and Ahilan Appar, on this achievement.
